Welcome to the website of the Foundation for Audit Excellence!

It is our opinion that the words “Audit Excellence” have over the years almost become an amusing oxymoron. In other words, the terms do not fit together; they in fact tend to be viewed as contradictory. Our Foundation will strive to help establish the linkage of those words. That is our intent and absolute commitment.

Auditing can be viewed as either a profession or a business:

As a profession, that means to us providing excellent service, going beyond the minimal and expected - constantly, persistently and visibly improving, sharing and caring and doing what is best for the customer. It also means anticipating what may add value for the customer’s audit dollar, while constantly adhering to the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.

As a business, this can mean following expected processes, getting by (at best) without violating established procedures, and responding to needs as they arise. In other words, do what is adequate for the customer. This also can equate to the paramount need for monetary success.

If you were going to obtain audit services, which approach would you prefer being used by the auditor?

We believe that audit service recipients should expect and receive excellent value for each dollar invested in an audit. We have identified questions that the audit recipient can use to work with their current service provider to achieve such value, and also to evaluate prospective service providers.

We also believe that “independent” audits can be and should be designed so that they are truly independent in appearance and reality.

The President of the Foundation is Mr. Richard J. Hamill. He is a CPA with 33 years of auditing and consulting experience. Richard has been employed by CPA Firms in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Oklahoma, and has also worked for 20 years in the internal auditing department of an investor-owned electric utility. Richard currently provides service as a consultant to Audit Committees, business owners and managers in such areas as process improvement efforts, ethics programs and the enhancement of audit services.
